| Around August 2003, several people including myself began asking about interest in a great California AO Day. As California is one of the largest states in the US, a suitable location for Californians to meet was essential. Interestingly though, California, with over 56 field locations statewide, had zero commercial paintball parks in a stretch south of Monterey to Oxnard, the middle area of the state and an ideal place to bring people from both the north and south areas of the state.
So, the idea was tossed around for almost 3 months until a Cal Poly college student arrived on AO (wallace9111), and posted that he had a field that we could use if needed. After that it was a matter of picking a date and working out the details. I drove down to the field area and met up with Will Fonda (wallace9111) to go see the field and snap off some pictures for people to see. I learned that the field was not a "public" field per say but rather one that was setup and maintined by Brad Scott who was a long time paintball player and played with many local players on his property. There followed a several week debate on how the various details of the event should be setup. I had to figure out how many days the event should be, where people whould stay and where the food was going to come from. The other big issue was that there was no HPA fill station on the premisis or power to operate one. Fortunately Will was close with the local painball store Breakout Paintball who generously offered to not only bring out their fill station and bank of welding tanks, but also their airball field. Breakout Paintball was a large reason this even even happened. More to come... |
